Scope of the project
Complete electrical and mechanical engineering design, fire prevention systems, structural engineering, project management and commissioning, including start-up testing.
Highlights
NCA Engineering was commissioned by its parent company, Ericsson , based in Stockholm, to refurbish its Rome offices with the aim of recreating an environment similar to that in Sweden and making the space conducive to communication and collaboration.
THE PROJECT
After visiting the offices in Stockholm, we proposed bringing to Italy one of the first cases of radiant ceiling, i.e. a cooling and heating system which has the advantage of making the environment more liveable, as heat and cold are transmitted mainly by radiation, creating a uniformly distributed and comfortable thermal gradient.
The parent company welcomed this proposal because it was consistent with the air conditioning concept they have in the North, but to adapt this solution to Italian summer climates it was necessary to make very precise calculations. In fact, the radiant ceiling, which is very efficient in producing heat, is not as efficient in producing cold.
This solution has other advantages: the ceiling consists of a series of elements, known as ‘bandraster’, which serve as modular infill panels for installing or removing walls. This allows for the creation of spaces tailored to team-building needs, meeting the client’s requirements for flexibility and interconnectivity.
Furthermore, the ceiling has acoustic properties that ensure environmental comfort even in open-plan spaces.
